when the city of jaipur was founded in 1727 by sawai jai singh i, craftsmen from all over the country were invited to come and make their home in this new city. royal patronage, lucrative offers and the attraction of living in a beautiful city led many artisans and craftsmen to come and settle in jaipur. by the beginning of the 19th century the city was well established as a thriving art centre. in keeping with the traditions of his forefathers, sawai ram singh ii (1835-1880) set up a school of art and continued to encourage artists and craftsmen.

today in jaipur, you will find a blend of modern and traditional.

lakh bangles

made of lacquer, you would find varieties of these bangles in abundance all over jaipur. any color you could imagine, would be available, sparkling with many crystals and stones.you would find stone studded lakh is used for other trinkets as well, such as toe rings, necklaces,ear rings etc.the best place to find abundant variety baapu bazaar.

jooties

the traditional toe covering flat heeled leather footwear is called a jootie. it is said, that no shoe maker ever repeats a designs and so, you would not find two jooties of the exact same design. this goes to say just how much variety you would find in jooties in jaipur.the best place to find: hawa mahal & baapu bazaar.

bandhej

a traditional textile art, bandhej literal mean 'to be bound'. depending on the design required, parts of a fabric are tied up. now this length of fabric is dipped and died in any colour, the portions tied, remain white or of the base color. these fabrics can then be used for anything – dresses, cushion covers, curtains etc. for women, they best suit a salwar & kameez outfit or a saree in silk or otherwise.the best place to find: hawa mahal & baapu bazaar, johri bazaar, mi road and panch batti.

leheria

another traditional fabric design you would find, is called leheria. literally translating to waves, this fabric comes in many colors and combinations. this again, can be found in many forms – sarees, dress materials etc. leheria in the green color of prosperity is also traditional wear for some of the festivals in rajasthan, like gangaur, teej etc. the best place to find: hawa mahal & baapu bazaar, johri bazaar, mi road and panch batti.

puppets

puppetry is a traditional art form and used to be source of entertainment before the era of radios and television.in jaipur, you would find large and small puppets clothed in traditional fabric and colors of rajasthan. the best place to find: hawa mahal & baapu bazaar.

sanganeri print

sanganer, near jaipur, is famous for its fine hand block printing in subdued colors. hand block printing was patronised by the royal family. sceen printing is also largely done here. sanganer has become an export hub for hand block printed materials. the sanganeri print is visible from small flower motifs like stylised sunflowers, narcissuses, roses, and other flowers of luxuriant foliage like daturas, rudrakshas, and arkas. on the way to chokhi dhani or on the way back to airport.

blue pottery

blue pottery is turko-persian in origin, but today is widely known as one of the distinctive crafts of jaipur. the best place to find: on the way to amer fort there are a lot of these blue pottery showrooms.

"there is an interesting story behind blue pottery first being introduced to jaipur. ram singh ii attended a kite flying session and watched as his kite masters were engaged in battle with two brothers from achnera (near agra). when the ruler saw that the brothers managed to cut down the royal kites almost every time, he was intrigued. he asked the brothers their secret. they told him that they were potters by profession and had coated their strings with the same blue green glass that they used for their pots. sawai ram singh ii was impressed so he invited the brothers to stay in jaipur and teach this unique form of glazed pottery at his new art school."

by booking a stay at chitrakatha directly or through a partner website, you agree to be bound by the following terms and conditions. please do read them carefully before you proceed with your booking.

arrival guide: 
The google location is absolutely accurate and you can depend on its directions. In case you find yourself lost, you need to remember these points to find your way back home a.k.a. Chitra Katha - A Story Per Stay.

1. Your pincode is 01 and you are walking distance away from Vidhayak Puri Police Station.
2. You are very close to Ajmer Pulia (flyover) also known as Elevated Road.
3. You are next to Aakashwani and GPO (General Post Office)
4. You are next to an old garrison fort; The Hathroi Fort which was built to keep an eye on the Ajmer Highway and to serve as the first line of defence on the south-west front for Jaipur/Amer.

Remembering one these points will also suffice.


check-in and check-out time:
the official check-in time is 12 noon and check-ut time is 11am. in case you need an early check-in, you need to inform us on info@chitrakatha.co.in beforehand. it is subject to availability and chargeable at a negligible charge of 450 rupees per room. late check-out is not possible at all. however we can keep your luggage in the store room till evening 6-8pm and that is free of charge.

pick-up/ shuttle services:
chitrakatha provides complementary pick up from railway station and sindhi camp bus station. if you would like to avail this facility, we would request you to inform us at the time of booking or at least one day before your arrival on info@chitrakatha.co.in with your travel details, number of people and a phone number to coordinate with. guests arriving at the airport are requested to take the pre-paid cab from the airport or a regular uber/ ola. this is because airport is away from the city and if we book it for the guest it turns out to be very expensive as we are charged for both ways. 

documentation:
we request that you produce your booking confirmation upon check-in at the hotel. a printed voucher or even an email is considered a valid proof. foreign nationals and indian citizens, both are required to submit original of a government approved proof of their identity at the time of check-in. minors below the age of 18 years must be accompanied by an adult guardian. while we value our guest’s privacy and safety, we are bound by law to provide all information and documents if required, for official government enquiry. over and above, the management reserves the right to admission and can deny any guest at their own discretion. 


extra mattress/ extra person:
Extra person/ extra mattress is charged at the rate of rs.350 per person/ mattress. we request you to inform us at the time of booking for any such requirement. this is to ensure we are prepared in advance for your specific needs. With breakfast (CP plan) is 500 rupees and on MAP plan it is 800/- rupees.


child policy:
infants ranging between 0-2 years of age are allowed free of charge. any child who’s 3 years of age or above is considered as an adult and full charge applies for an extra person.


cancellation and refund policy:
Rs.300/- is the only charge (advance booking and cancellation charge) in case you cancel 72 hours (3 days) before check-in. Rest of the amount is wire transferred in the same account (received from) or the account suggested by guest in writing. however in case the guest fails to inform us (mail/ text message) in order to cancel the booking within the speculated time, one day rent is charged as cancellation fees. it applies to all bookings, even the ones booked for a single night. medical emergencies are considered as long as their is valid proof. 


bookings:
chitrakatha has partnered with many leading websites to give you smooth access to booking a stay with us. you may also book a stay directly with www.chitrakatha.co.in  booking directly or through a partner website, you will receive a confirmation within 24 hours. if you do not receive your booking confirmation within 24 hours, please contact us on info@chitrakatha.co.in or the partner website. any refunds will take 7 working days after the cancellation and will be a NEFT/ UPI transfer. for guests arriving without prior booking, admission will be subject to room availability and managements discretion. 


booking modifications:
any modifications to existing bookings will be subject to availability of rooms. in case we do not have rooms available for the revised dates, the transaction would be treated as cancellation and our cancellation policy will apply. when modifying booking during peak season, the guest would need to pay differential room tariff, if any. 


breakfast:
our sumptous breakfast combos (limited) are available every day from 7am to 11am on our rooftop restaurant that offers the most remarkable view of the hathroi fort. This is the best value for money deal available at rupees 150/- for all those who choose to book under the CP plan, if not booked with your stay you'll find that our elaborate menu starts at rs.195 per person and goes on till 320/- spanning over a wide variety of indian, south-indian, punjabi, marathi and western receipes. our guests are requested to go through the welcome kit and let us know their breakfast preference the previous night. however, a 30 minute buzzer before you arrive at the restaurant, will also do.
